Types of connectors for charging electric vehicles

  • Type 1 (SAE J1772) - common in North America and Asia, single-phase connector for AC charging with a maximum power of up to 7.4 kW.

  • Type 2 (Mennekes) - European standard for AC charging, supports single-phase and three-phase charging with a power output of up to 43 kW.

  • CCS2 (Combined Charging System 2) - widespread in Europe, combines Type 2 for AC charging and adds two pins for DC fast charging with a power output of up to 350 kW.

  • CHAdeMO - Japanese standard for DC fast charging, supports power up to 100 kW, gradually being replaced by CCS2.

  • GB/T - Chinese standard for charging electric vehicles, used primarily in China.

How to choose the right connector

  • Vehicle compatibility - check which type of connector is compatible with your electric vehicle.

  • Required power - choose a connector that supports the required charging power of your car.

  • Charging type - determine whether you need AC or DC charging and select the appropriate connector.
